Please join us for a Sitar Concert by Sahana Banerjee with Nitin Mitta on Tabla. The concert will take place on Saturday, March 8, at 10 am in Pratt Music Hall (McCulloch Auditorium).
Sahana Banerjee is one of the leading female sitar players of India belonging to Rampur Senia Gharana. Sahana was born in a family of rich musical heritage and was readily recognized as a child prodigy at an early age of four. Sahana’s unique presentation reflects the traditional Veenkar Dhrupad Style of Rampur Senia Gharana maintaining the purity of Raga along with her own aesthetical blends of Gayaki.
Nitin Mitta is an accomplished tabla soloist and in-demand accompanist, having performed with some of India’s most esteemed musicians. Trained in India, by his Gurus, Pt. G. Satyanarayana and Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar—both disciples of the legendary Ustad Amir Husain Khan of the Farukhabad Gharana—Nitin has developed a deep-rooted mastery of the tabla. As a dedicated teacher, Nitin shares his expertise with tabla enthusiasts worldwide and serves as a teaching associate at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
