Dear Humans of Hampshire,

Does it seem like fall is finally here? The leaves seem to think so...but its so warm! Climate change?...check out a New York Times article de-briefing of the recent UN climate report here https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/07/climate/ipcc-climate-report-2040.html

And here is a short video of the UN Secretary General speaking about climate change from September https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=159&v=VNe-jBVij-g

At this week's meeting we talked a lot about waste- food waste and material waste. Did you know that forty percent of food in the US is wasted? (Check out New Leaf's Facebook page for an upcoming event at UMass, a screening of Wasted: The Story of Food Waste.) We want to create change, at least on our most local level, the Hampshire community.

How well is the composting system/waste stream working in the Kern and the Bridge? Want to create an educational cooking/shopping program at Hampshire? Our new president, Mim, is interested in food, nutrition, and sustainability!

This upcoming Wednesday, the new sustainability director of the Kern, Sara Draper, will be joining us. Sara will be telling us about her role here at Hampshire and ways she would like to collaborate with students for campus sustainability initiatives. Let's take advantage of our connections and resources to create change.
Come be a part of these conversations...
