The concert will feature new choreography by Hampshire faculty Lailye Weidman, as well as work from UMass Dance faculty, and a performance of Lucinda Childs’s Dance 1, presented as a part of Five College Dance 2023 Repertory Project. This concert features many Hampshire dancers, and is a show you don’t want to miss!
The show begins at 7:30pm in the Totman Performance Lab at UMass Amherst. Tickets are $25 general public, $15 for seniors, and $5 for non-UMass students (UMass students are free with ID). Tickets are available from the Fine Arts Center Box Office at 413-545-2511 or at fineartscenter.com/musicanddance.
We would love to have the Hampshire community present for this joint production between our community and the UMass community, so coordinate carpooling or take the PVTA with a friend, and show up to support Hampshire Dance!
As lungs as wings
Choreographed by Lailye Weidman with significant contributions from the cast.
This work is the second study in an ongoing choreographic project called Skin in the Game, which utilizes ensemble dancing as a way to unpack this moment of the lingering pandemic. We began the semester looking back at lockdown, remembering how isolation changed our sense of time, space, distance, and proximity. We soon began focusing more on questions of the present and future: How do we move with both an increased sense of risk and an increased understanding of the value of being together? What can be gained by breathing together? What have we learned about navigating through states that are constantly shifting?
