In partnership with the Dean of Students Office, OPRA is thrilled to be working with Zoar Outdoor in Charlemont to offer two different white water rafting trips during Welcome Week. Explore the Deerfield river during an exciting adventure over rapids and around obstacles.
We are offering a full day and half day white water rafting trip! The details for each are below!
For the half day trip, we will raft a section of class III and IV whitewater (bumpy water with "moderate and irregular waves" and obstacles). The trip usually takes about 4.5 hours overall, with about 2 hours on the water. We will meet at the RCC at 730am and return to campus around 3pm.
For the full day trip, we will raft a ten-mile section of class II whitewater (current fast enough to create some light, easily navigable turbulence around obvious obstacles like rocks in the water) with one class III rapid (current moving fast enough and around enough obstacles to create moderate, irregular waves) on the Deerfield River in Northwestern Massachusetts. This trip will include lunch on the river! We will meet at the RCC at 830am and return by 6pm.
**Participants on this trip may be required to swim aggressively wearing a personal flotation device in rocky, fast whitewater.
We are offering a sliding scale for this trip to help make it more accessible. Please use the following guidelines to determine how to choose your cost slot:
$70: If you are able to go out to dinner on a whim, see a cute shirt in the store and buy it on the spot, and generally don't have to put much thought into how and if finances will be available, please choose this option which will help support other's in attending this trip.
$50: If you are able to get a cup of coffee at a cafe, buy that fancy Kombucha at the store, and have a little surplus, please choose this option.
$30 If you are often concerned about your ability to participate in extra curricular or have to say no to certain activities due to financial concerns please choose this option.
