MOVERS UNITE'S "TO BE PERFORMATIVE: AN EXPLORATION OF EMBODIMENT AND CHARACTER, IN DANCE AND IN LIFE" WORKSHOP
This dance workshop, presented by Movers Unite and taught by Div 1 student Samara Ternoir, addresses the multidimensional idea of performance.
We will be working to answer the question, how do we perform in our daily lives? Through deconstructing and defining terms such as performance, dance, and character, analyzing our personal relationships with self-expression through written and physical exercises, and playing around with characterization and dramatization, participants will explore how identity and dance intersect physically, mentally, and emotionally. We will experiment with music (and silence), being watched and ignored, walking around confined and open spaces with and without limitations, and loosely developing choreography that speaks directly to our respective bodies and how we desire to present them to the world (if/how we so choose).
Dance/performing arts experience is NOT required! As long as you are willing to be vulnerable and are able to move in whatever ways you can (while also being open to physical and emotional discomfort), you are more than welcome. Come prepared to move, discuss, act, laugh, cry, change your mind, and of course, perform!
