We still have a few spaces available for the Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification training April 9-10 hosted at Hampshire College.
The WFA is a pre-requisite for most outdoor jobs and careers, including forestry, field research, outdoor education, guiding, summer camps, trail maintenance, fire fighting, park rangers, etc.
It’s also highly recommended for anyone involved in rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, skiing and other outdoor adventure sports.
* Scholarship funding is available for Hampshire Students. Interested individuals can apply for funding through the OPRA Scholarship Fund. *
The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course will help you prepare for the unexpected. This fast-paced, hands-on training is designed to meet the needs of trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals working in remote locations.
The course will introduce you to caring for people who become ill or are injured far from definitive medical care. Classroom lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients will challenge you to integrate your learning. At the end of the course, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
Taught by a certified instructor in a two day format, learning takes place both in the classroom (socially distanced) and in outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions. Come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot environments. All 'hands-on' scenarios will be one-on-one with the same person, according to covid protocols. Participants are especially encouraged to sign-up with a mod-mate, or another person with whom you are already a close contact. Packing list and complete covid protocols will be sent out with sign-up confirmation
Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, April 9 & 10, 8 AM to 5 PM both days
Certification: Successful course completion earns you a 2 year SOLO Wilderness First Aid certification.
CPR training is an optional additional 2 hour training from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday.
