Facebook Event for Northampton

On October 2, marches will be held in every single state ahead of the Supreme Court reconvening on Monday, October 4. Women's March and more than 90 other organizations, including National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, Planned Parenthood, SHERO Mississippi, Mississippi in Action, Access Reproductive Care-Southeast, The Frontline, Working Families Party, and SisterSong, are organizing a national call to mobilize and defend our reproductive rights and the time to act is urgent:

  • On Sept. 1st, the Supreme Court refused to block a Texas law that bans abortion at six weeks and deputizes private citizens to sue anyone who assists with an abortion for $10,000 plus attorneys’ fees
  • On Dec. 1st, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the Mississippi case, Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health, which specifically asks the Court to overrule its landmark decisions in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey
  •  At least 90 abortion restrictions have been enacted in 2021, more than in any previous year.

Speakers at the Northampton march include:

  • Shanique Spalding, Manager of Mobilization and BIPOC Organizing at Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts
  • Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa, 1st Hampshire District
  • Prof. Jennifer Taub, Western New England School of Law
  • Rachel Maiore, Northampton City Councilor
  • Dr. Shirley Jackson Whitaker, physician, artist and community activist
  • Prof. Carrie N Baker, Study of Women and Gender, Smith College
  • Marisa Pizii, Deputy Director of Programs and Policy, Collective Power for Reproductive Justice, and co-president of the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts
  • Dr. Tiffany Corlin, Ob-Gyn 4th Year Resident at Baystate Medical Center
  • Prof. Cora Fernandez-Anderson, Politics, Mount Holyoke College and author of Fighting for Abortion Rights in Latin America: Social Movements, State Allies and Institutions (2020)
  • Marisol Pierce Bonifaz & Edy Savage, Generation Ratify Amherst

If you want to attend a march, but won’t be in Northampton, there will also be a rally for period equity in Amherst at 4pm, and marches in other cities around the country.
