An opportunity to come together, be together, and honor the work of Reproductive Justice scholars and activists across the Five Colleges with a social dinner, screening of the award-winning documentary PERSONHOOD, and a conversation with director Jo Ardinger! This event is open to the Five College community, and is co-sponsored by the UMass Amherst Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies Department; the Five College Reproductive Politics Faculty Seminar; the Five College Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice Certificate; the Hampshire College In/Justice Learning Collaborative; the Mount Holyoke College Department of Gender Studies; the Smith College Department of the Study of Women and Gender; and the Amherst College Sexuality, Women's and Gender Studies Department.
Jo Ardinger is an award winning director, story consultant, and the founder of Tandybrook Productions. Her reproductive justice documentary, PERSONHOOD: Policing Pregnant Women in America, explores the growing criminalization of pregnant people. The film, Ardinger’s feature directorial debut, premiered at DOC NYC in 2019 and won the American Bar Association’s 2020 Silver Gavel Award for Documentaries, Wisconsin Film Festival’s Golden Badger Award, and the Documentary Silver Prize at the Social Justice Film Festival. She is currently editing the feature Reggae documentary, Richman Poorman, the Clinton Fearon Story. Ardinger also serves on the Advisory Council of the Social Justice Film Institute in Seattle, WA.
