Linguistic Bodies and the Materiality of Microaggressions
a lunch talk with Elena Cuffari, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Worcester State University

The enactive approach to cognition resists classic and persistent dualisms in philosophy and cognitive science by understanding mind as continuous with rather than opposing life. Advancing this theory to previously unaddressed "higher-order" cognitive activities, Elena Cuffari and co-authors make unique, whole, living bodies in interaction with one another the explanatory resource for an account of linguistic activity and meaning. This talk will overview the arguments put forward in a forthcoming book, Linguistic Bodies: The Continuity Between Life and Language. Professor Cuffari will then focus on the book's closing discussions pertaining to the ethical ramifications of our being together in language.
