Alum Ananda Valenzuela 07F will share their journey from Hampshire, where he was heavily involved in activism for institutional change and used her Div III to learn about the inner workings of nonprofits firsthand and built relationships that resulted in a job offer upon completion of her studies. He will share more about their journey through a variety of leadership roles in social change work, her current activism towards more equitable, abundant nonprofits, and insights into how to build a life path that is values-aligned and oriented towards social and environmental transformation.

Bio for Ananda Valenzuela 07F (any pronouns)

Ananda is the interim co-executive director of RVC, a capacity-building organization that strengthens nonprofits led by and serving Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities in Seattle. They are also the co-founder of the BIPOC Executive Director Coalition of Washington, co-chair of the board of Change Elemental, and member of the board of Hampshire College. Her work centers on organizational development, with a particular focus on equitable self-management and liberatory practices.

Ananda grew up in Puerto Rico and slowly made his way across the United States, holding a variety of consultant, governance, and activist roles along the way. Before RVC, Ananda worked at TSNE, a nonprofit capacity building firm, where she managed a consulting program and developed a fellowship program. Ananda graduated from Hampshire College with a focus on organizational development and institutional ethnography, and was heavily involved in pedagogical change and student government.

Outside of work, Ananda can usually be found playing intense board games or reading books cover-to-cover.
